Sowerby Nursery School - quality nursery school care and education

Moving up to School

Your child is entitled to start school in the September after their 4th birthday, where they will join a reception class.  Some time during your child's final year at Nursery you will recieve a Local Authority prospectus listing the primary school in your area along with admissions forms.  The Nursery has very close links with the two nearest primary schools, which are Sowerby Community Primary School and All Saints RC Primary School.

Starting school can be an anxious time for children and parents, but at Sowerby Nursery School we do everything we can to ease the transition to school.  Older children at Nursery make regular visits into school for singing and music activities, and there are also visits to events such as the Christmas Nativity Play.

Your child will meet their new class teacher during their last term at Nursery, and they will also have the chance to attend school for three afternoons in order to become used to their new classroom.   You will also have the chance to enjoy a school dinner with you child.

Dear Parents,

Sowerby Community Primary School is a place where young children arrive at 4 years old and grow into self-confident 11 year olds ready to go forward with their educational lives. A lot happens in between, and we pride ourselves on giving the very best opportunities for children to learn both socially, physically and emotionally as well as intellectually.

It is a great pleasure to see the greater involvement of parents around school. They help in lots of different ways, securing that very important relationship between home and school. Schools are much more than places for children to learn. They should be the focal point of the community and places where life long learning can take place as well. Many parents have taken up the opportunity to learn about school life through attending sharing assemblies, class outings and special occasions, helping regularly in classrooms and of course taking up places on the courses that we run for parents.

Please make an appointment to visit the school and experience the sense of purpose that prevails throughout the school. The staff and I will be only too pleased to show you around and to answer any questions.  I look forward to meeting both you and your child.

Best wishes,

Mrs J Yendall
Headteacher.

All Saints would welcome enquiries from parents of children who have started their education at Sowerby Nursery School.  We are a small school with what we hope is a family atmosphere where all the children and staff know each other very well.  We are proud of the Christian ethos that is the basis of all we do, but we are not exclusively for Catholic children, and in fact only half of our children currently come from Catholic families.  We welcome applications from children of all denominations whose parents would like them to be educated in a small, church school.  Do, please, come and have a look at us and talk to the staff before deciding on a school for your child.  You will be made most welcome.
